Disciplines
The issue of urban social inclusion and spatial integration encompasses by definition the social, economic, cultural, political and spatial dimensions. The SSIIM UNESCO Chair will therefore require the involvement of researchers and scholars from different disciplines and field of competence, primarily but not exclusively:
- urban planning: identifying processes and methodologies conducing to common values embedded in urban planning and management policies which are more inclusive, bearing in mind various socio-cultural and geopolitical contexts and how these policies are promoting social and spatial integration of international migrants in urban settings
- political sciences: assessing the capacity and attitudes of the different stakeholders at local and regional level, as well as the socio-economic impact of existing policies on promoting the social inclusion of international migrants
- economics: evaluating the impact of international migrants on the urban economy and the measures to increase the benefits accruing to the city as well as the countries of origin
- sociology: investigating how international migrants’ diverse cultural, religious and educational backgrounds generate different perspectives and attitudes towards the notion of urban inclusion on the receiving society as well as the migrants communities
